The health, safety and wellbeing of our people and clients is paramount and non-negotiable. Tompkins Wake is taking all practicable measures to minimise the risks of COVID-19 and ensure continuity of service to our clients.


As the global pandemic is an evolving situation, we will continue to update our response and this page to reflect our latest advice, action and best practice in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. We have updated this page to reflect the firm's response and actions now that New Zealand is in lockdown at Alert Level 4.

How prepared is Tompkins Wake to handle business interruptions like COVID-19? 

As a leading New Zealand law firm and employer of more than 120 people, Tompkins Wake has plans in place to help manage and mitigate the risk and potential impact of external factors like COVID-19 on its people, clients and business operations. Our priority is to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of our people and continuity of service for our clients. 

The firm has in place a specific Business Continuity and Response Plan for COVID-19 in addition to our Disaster Response and Recovery Plan.

Can the firm continue to operate and can staff work remotely now we are in lockdown?

Tompkins Wake has a robust IT infrastructure in place to support all of our lawyers working remotely if required, including teleconferencing and videoconferencing facilities. We maintain advanced cybersecurity software and measures to ensure our network is secure and our data protected. In times like these, with our entire staff working remotely, we are ensuring that our monitoring, general alertness and vigilance are at a high level. 

The firm and our infrastructure are supporting over 100 employees working remotely to ensure continuity of service, support and uninterrupted service for our clients.

General Health & Wellbeing 

One of Tompkins Wake's core values is People Matter, and the health, safety and wellbeing of our people, clients and community is our priority.

  • To ensure the preparedness and protection of all our people we are attempting to bring forward the firm's annual flu vaccination program to make it available earlier this year. While we understand that the flu vaccination does not provide protection from or prevent COVID-19, it does help our people to maintain their general health and wellness.
  • We are mindful of the impacts that COVID-19 can have on our people, their families and support networks. The firm has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) in place, facilitated by an external provider which is available to all employees and their families at any time.
