Tompkins Wake is pleased to announce the appointment of Rachel Scott who joins the firm as a Senior Associate in Dispute Resolution and Litigation.

Rachel is an experienced civil litigator with unique capabilities in providing advice and Court representation in tax disputes with the Commissioner of Inland Revenue. Rachel is also one of the few practitioners whose experience includes working for the IRD, both as an investigator and lawyer, before moving to private practice for the last eight years.

In addition to her tax practice, Rachel has regularly worked in the general civil jurisdiction both in a Court room (mostly in the High Court) and in alternative dispute resolution, including judicial style arbitrations and mediations. Her background in this area is largely commercial and includes company law especially insolvency work (for both company directors and shareholders) and Liquidators. She has a particular interest in shareholder and partnership disputes.

In addition, Rachel has acted in numerous Resource Management disputes in the Environment Court and Commissioner’s Hearings and land based litigation including Maori Land Court litigation such as the removal of redundant land covenants, change of status applications from Maori land to freehold land, landlocked land and easements to ancestral lands.

Rachel is the current board chair of Volunteering Waikato which recruits and trains volunteers for its member organisations.

She is also past chair of the former Young practitioner’s committee for the Waikato Branch of the NZLS and the local NZLS admissions committee.
